Even in the modern muzzleloaders when I shoot big conicals, I seldom go past 85 grains of powder. This is for accuracy, recoil as well as to reduce leading.I use the rear tang screw and if needed, drill and tap a new whole in the tang. Some of the TC rifle and some of the Pedersoli's come with a hole already there, but of not, do not panic, it's an easy 5 minute job to drill and tap a 6/32 or 8/32 hole. A 1:48 twist in larger calibers (.45 and up) is generally very finicky in what it will shoot accurately with. Ask any serious Buffalo match or bench rest shooter what the twist is in their rifles. Invariably they will be 1:66; 1:72 or even 1:144.

Finger tight on your turn screw is all that is needed. I usually put a small amount of oil on the lock plate and bridal, and some oil on the sear screw.

At my last range session, I shot a 4 inch group at 75 yards off my elbows (no bags) with a .50 caliber Traditions Kentucky. With this thinned stain, use a small, fine hair paint brush about 3/4" to 1" wide and paint the stain onto the wood. Apply the stain "with the grain". Try not to overlap the strokes but also try no cover all of the wood so there are no unstained places.
